Our first family road trips were to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City.

Provide you with elements of familiarity. No concerns about health care, automobile servicing etc.

First family road trip to the U.S. was to revisit a destination which I had visited as a child - The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan - next to Detroit.

Why am I travelling - Relocation

Thirty years ago this year - 2018, I decided to take a risk and consider relocating from British Columbia where I had lived since I was 9, to Ontario to improve my job prospects. I stayed at my sister's house in Hamilton while she was away for a month on business and job searched in Toronto. The week before I was to return to Vancouver on my ticket, I saw a job ad ...

Maybe you are in a similar situation?

This is a scary prospect, considering you are already new to Canada.

It is a life changing decision as I met my wife to be in Toronto and have now lived here for 30 years.

Why am I travelling? Spring Break

As a parent you may have decided that this is the year to take your children on a spring break trip. It could be summer vacation and a chance to explore your new country. Or you might be contemplating a job change and considering relocating to another part of the country, but want to explore it first. Whatever the reason, we are here to assist.

Spring Break
Across Canada this often means a chance to bond as a family with the children out of school for usually a week. You may have also noticed that your friends and work colleagues have also decided to use this vacation week to travel. We cherished this week as a family and it was circled it on our calendar every year. Cost is a big consideration and the way were able to afford our annual Spring Break vacation was through careful planning, points collecting by my wise and thrifty wife and through driving rather than flying to southern destinations.

Welcome to Newcomers Road Trip

31/12/2017

I've had the opportunity as a parent to explore many areas of North America with my family. It has brought us closer together and helped to foster our children's senses of wonder, curiosity and learning. I invite you as newcomers to Canada to do the same. This site is meant to guide you on these journeys and provide you with tips and suggestions which we have learned as a family through trial and error.
